Day 17

The past few days have been a little stressful. Let me just say that overall Michael's health is fine and his vitals, organs, feedings are all well. It was determined yesterday that Michael has been having some episodes where he forgets to breath or pauses in breathing. When this happens his heart rate drops. Sometimes he comes out of it himself in seconds and other times he needs to be stimulated. The drs were aggressive and drew blood, did a spinal tap and checked his PICC line to see if he has a staph infection and they started antibotics just in case. All of his tests came back normal except for his PICC line. It was found today that his PICC line had a local yeast infection so it was removed right away. He has a new IV in his hand and will be getting antibotics for a few days. So far it has been determined that he does not show that the yeast infection has gone into his blood stream. Today he only had two episodes that were very short. They also put a nasal canula back on so he has air blowing on his nose just to keep him stimulated. Overall his health is fine, but of course we worry that they won't find out why he has the episodes. Some of this is attributed to his prematurity. He is being watched closely and is always on a monitor. He is still getting the 24cc's (almost an ounce) of feedings every 3 hours and digesting that well. Mommy is letting him rest and taking his feedings from his bed. We know that so far the drs have made decisions to move ahead with feeedings, removing his oxygen, etc up to this point but sometimes the little ones aren't ready to move ahead that fast so Michael probably needs a few days where he rests. All of his blood cultures will be in on Tuesday and we'll go from there. We are grateful that up until now he has been very healthy and the drs say he is not sick, we just have to wait this out. Needless to say, we are a little stressed.

Michael is up to 3lbs 2 ounces!!
